Description
Job Description: Airbus R&T in the wing perimeter has focused a lot in
the past years on the structural and industrial aspects, resulting in
the Wing of Tomorrow concepts and ground prototypes. Even if such an
optimized wing, with a folding wing tip, improves the performance
compared to today's standards, additional fuel burn reduction is
envisaged to reach Airbus clean aviation ambitions in the next
decades. Improvements will be possible using disruptive wing
technologies focusing on wing performance (note that wing performance
is a major feature of any aircraft, whatever its configuration), and
need acceleration or feasibility demonstration. The opportunity of a
Flight Control System Designer & WPL position has risen within the
team. It consists of a fixed-term contract (CDI-C) within the Airbus
UpNext subsidiary in Toulouse or Madrid, in the flat eXtra performance
WING project organization. UpNext is an incubator for different ways
of working, and many processes are simplified to achieve maximum
efficiency. New team members are selected by existing ones,
procurement can be quick to develop fast, and a very flexible approach
to telework and office work is promoted. The project corresponding to
this position is the demonstrator of those disruptive wing
technologies. This is a 3 years exciting program whose purpose is to
fly a remote controlled business jet, flying subsonic, at classical
Airbus aircraft altitudes, with a scaled wing heavily instrumented.
Such wing would be fitted with folding wing tip, semi aero elastic
hinge, pop up spoilers, LIDARs, morphing surfaces, multifunctional
trailing edges, and would incorporate a new generation of flight
control laws, in order to actively control manoeuver, loads, gust and
flutter. Job description: You will work within the Overall Systems
Design team with the main responsibilities as below: * Lead the
development and design of flight control computers (FCC) and remote
recorder data device (R2D2) and data fusion and concentrators
computers (DFC, DC) from specification to validation. * Supplier
Management and monitoring (for FCC and DFC Suppliers) * Definition of
the interfaces with the related systems * Contribution to the
integration of flight control and autopilot laws into flight control
computer specifications. For this the candidate should be able to use
specification tools such as Matlab. * Lead the design reviews with the
various interlocutors. * Contribution to the Safety, Verification and
Validation related activities, * Contribution to the Permit to Fly
dossier preparation. The tasks may evolve during the course of the
project, so being flexible is important. This job requires an
awareness of any potential compliance risks, including Export Control,
and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the
Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth. Your Boarding
Pass: Aeronautical engineer by graduate schools or universities, with
significant experience in the design of avionics equipment, ideally
with a knowledge of the overall flight control systems. Knowledge of
safety and permit to fly is a plus. Of course, speaking English is
more than mandatory, but even more so in this project (strong duality
with the UK). You are autonomous and willing to take initiatives to
propose simpler and efficient ways of working. You will be required to
work very closely with the flight control laws & actuator teams, and
cross-functionally with the Airbus Teams, as well as external
stakeholders. You have great collaborative skills, sharing the values
of transparency, courage, humility, & empathy with a good
understanding of interface management and practical problem solving.
Finally, it is paramount to be curious, open minded, creative,
challenging, because in UpNext, we try new ways of working. About us
Founded in 2017, Airbus UpNext is actively shaping the future of
aerospace by using demonstrators to evaluate, mature and validate new
products and services. Designed as a talent incubator, Airbus UpNext
is a place where you can act and think like a startup while building
on the strong expertise of Airbus, a place where you are empowered to
challenge and test new processes and ways of working. Our purpose is:
To identify the trends that could disrupt the future of the aerospace
industry and evaluate them to demonstrate their potential as a viable
product. To accelerate traditional research cycles and prototype
development to achieve proof of concept in a real environment and at a
convincing scale and speed. To develop real-world applications for
emerging aerospace technologies, thereby driving their maturity and
increasing their value. To be THE reference for Technology Value
