Description
Job Description: The “Advanced Superconducting and Cryogenic
Experimental powertraiN Demonstrator” ( ASCEND) is a 3-year project
to develop and test a 500 kW superconducting and cryogenic powertrain
to demonstrate the feasibility and the potential of superconducting
and cryogenic technologies for hybrid/full electric propulsion system
for aircraft. ASCEND consists of a transnational team in charge of
developing this ambitious, futuristic and disruptive project composed
of a superconducting AC/DC network with protections, a cryogenic motor
drive, a superconducting electric motor and of a cryogenic system. The
technologies will be developed and tested in collaboration with the
best research institutes and companies in the world and integrated in
the X-lab’s test benches in Ottobrunn The opportunity of a Cryogenic
technology R&T engineer for electrical systems position has risen
within the team. The position, based in Toulouse, is within the Airbus
UpNext subsidiary in France. It consists of a fixed-term contract
(CDI-C) on an estimated two-year long project. As a Cryogenic
technology R&T engineer for electrical systems, you will be part of
the team in charge of developing an ambitious, futuristic and
disruptive project on an advanced superconducting and cryogenic
experimental powertrain for hybrid/full electric propulsion system. It
will be composed of a superconducting DC network with protections, a
cryogenic motor drive, and a superconducting electric motor and of a
cryogenic system. You are passionate about aeronautic, sciences and
technologies, have a strong technical background and like to make and
test yourself breakthrough technologies on concrete demonstrations.
You like difficult challenges and are the type of person who thinks
about “how things can be done” rather than “if they can be
done”. You will be part of an ambitious but flexible project
execution with a diverse technical team, with partners from worldwide
industry and academia, start-ups in a dynamic and emulating
environment. You work collaboratively, with humility and are a
constant learner about how to improve your knowledge and the
performance of yourself. Responsibilities: As a Cryogenic technology
R&T engineer for electrical systems (m/f), you will be part of the
team in charge of designing, prototyping and testing all the
components of the system: * Support all the team to develop electrical
technologies taking into account the cryogenic cooling needs * Develop
cryogenic technologies, exchangers and circuits for all electrical
bricks to ensure cryogenic or superconductivity state (distribution
components, cables, motor drive and electric motor) * Design the
cryogenic system and the control/command for the demonstrator *
Perform tests and validate cryogenic technologies * Support electrical
team to integrate and test all technological bricks * Participate to
the test of the cryogenic, superconducting powertrain * Evaluate the
performances and the potential for propulsive application * Drive
industrial and academic partners Your boarding pass As the successful
candidate you will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following
skills and competencies: * Background in cryogenic system and have a
relevant degree * Experience in complex cryogenic systems from
technology, design through prototyping and laboratory testing *
Experience in electrical engineering * Demonstrated track record of
end-to-end project execution * Well-built professional network within
their domain of expertise, including academics, industrial players,
consultants, entrepreneurs * Demonstrated ability to reason rigorously
about technology or business models at varying levels of abstraction.
Especially: * Autonomy, Adaptability, Availability, Accountability *
Team-Player * Hands-on and solution oriented attitude * Passionate

like a startup while building on the strong expertise of Airbus, a
place where you are empowered to challenge and test new processes and
ways of working. Our mission is: * To identify the trends that could
disrupt the future of the aerospace industry and evaluate them to
demonstrate their potential as a viable product. * To accelerate
traditional research cycles and prototype development to achieve proof
of concept in a real environment and at a convincing scale and speed.
* To develop real-world applications for emerging aerospace
technologies, there by driving their maturity and increasing their
value. * To be THE reference for Technology Value Assessment Our
