Beyond Ratings is a research and data analytics company specialised in
augmenting macro-financial analytics of assets with the inclusion of
Environmental, Social, and Governance factors. In that context, energy
and climate issues are key factors in our innovative risk assessment
methodologies. Incorporated in 2014, we are a team of 20 collaborators
and, since May 2019, we are part of FTSE Russell, index provider of
the London Stock Exchange Group. Our clients are financial
institutions: institutional investors, asset managers, corporate and
investment banks, insurance companies, development banks,
infrastructure funds. Beyond Ratings received the label “Jeune
Entreprise Innovante” and allocates more than 20% of its budget to
R&D programs. What we are looking for: There is a broad consensus
among financial regulatory institutions on the specific nature of the
climate change risks and the need to make projections in the framework
of climate and economic scenarios to estimate these risks. The NGFS
and TCFD initiatives are illustrative examples of the current momentum
on scenario-based forward looking analyses. As part of the Sovereign
ESG and Climate unit of the Sustainable Investment Research
department, the intern will be involved in the development of an
analytical tool based on climate scenarios. Key Responsibilities: *
Literature review on scenario’s methodologies (mainly quantitative)
and results * Tracking of the best available science in terms of
socio-economic impacts from climate change * Link with the climate
stress tests recently launched by some central banks * Participation
to the implementation of the climate scenario solution, including
through collaboration with other institutions; * In-depth focus on
specific parts of the methodology, for instance the links between
transition and physical risks or the role of the “Carbon Dioxide
Removal” solutions in the scenarios; * Participating in ad hoc
studies that may lead to publications. Qualifications : * Student
about to graduate from a Master’s degree in environmental economics,
environmental sciences or a related discipline; * Strong skills in
applied statistics and quantitative models; * Experience and/or
knowledge on climate scenarios (IEA, IPCC, etc.) would be a plus,
willingness to specialise in climate studies would be consistent with
this position * Proficiency in the Office suite; * Good command of
English and French. Intangibles : * Rigorous and detailed-oriented; *
Ability to work well in teams; * Autonomy; * Ability to exchange with
partners and specialists outside of the organization, including
academics; * Critical thinking and able to propose new ideas. Location
and status : The position will be located within Beyond Ratings’
